Jesus was a disciple of John the Baptist

According to the Bible, Mary the mother of Jesus and Elizabeth the mother of John the Baptist were related. In the Gospel of Luke, it is stated that Elizabeth was a relative of Mary, but the exact nature of their relationship is not specified. Some scholars speculate that they may have been cousins.

36 And behold, even your relative Elizabeth herself has conceived a son in her old age, and [a]she who was called infertile is now in her sixth month.

The Gospel of Luke 1:36

John the Baptist appeared in the wilderness, [a]preaching a baptism of repentance for the forgiveness of sins.

In those days Jesus came from Nazareth in Galilee and was baptized by John in the Jordan.

The Gospel of Mark 1:4, 1:9

14 Now after John was [a]taken into custody, Jesus came into Galilee, [b]preaching the gospel of God, 15 and saying, “The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God [c]is at hand; repent and [d]believe in the gospel.”

the Gospel of Mark 1:14–15

The three lesser known Apostles may have been the brothers of Jesus

The three lesser known Apostles were

  • James, son of Alfeaus
  • Judas/Thaddeaus
  • Simon the Zealotes

There is at least one story for the nine Apostles but there is no stories about the three lesser knowns.

Alpheus and Clophas in Hebrew “khalaf” are very similar if not the same.

Is this not the carpenter, the son of Mary and brother of [a]James, Joses, Judas, and Simon? And are His sisters not here with us?” And they took offense at Him.

The Gospel of Mark 6:3

NOTE: In judaism you never ever call a person the son of their mother. Excuse me. What happened there? Either you don’t know, or you don’t say. There’s two ways to get pregnant.

St James the Minor by Peter Paul Rubens (1613)

“I think Clophas is a nickname and I don’t think two brothers would marry two girls named Mary, and name all their kids exactly the same names including the nickname (27:25). Mary is the wife of Joseph but she’s also the wife of Clophas because Joseph dies childless (11:29).”

James Tabor

NOTE: Levirate marriage is a type of marriage in which the brother of a deceased man is obliged to marry his brother’s widow. Levirate marriage has been practiced by societies with a strong clan structure in which exogamous marriage (i.e. marriage outside the clan) is forbidden. [Deuteronomy 25:5–10]

The movement with James, the brother of Jesus

The Christian movement associated with James the Minor, the brother of Jesus, is often referred to as the “Jerusalem Church” or the “Jewish Christian Church.” It was a community of Jewish believers who regarded Jesus as the Messiah and sought to live according to his teachings, while also maintaining their Jewish identity and customs.

Over time, the Jerusalem Church was absorbed into the larger and more diverse Christian communities that emerged in the Roman Empire, but its legacy lived on in the Christian traditions and teachings that were passed down through the centuries.
